Improv 2, Week 5

Improv of Two Lorries by Seamus Heaney
line: "the conceit of a coalman..."

Even conventions, with their loud crowds
and synonymous sound are
a metaphor for the mundane.
Here too, we dress our best for eyes
and the pull of their admiration, their soft look
working over our prim curls and pressed
hemlines--we gather for the grind
and shuffle of our feet in formation,
pushing to our next meeting, our next panel,
wondering if this is the place
that will finally accept me.
